Briefs

Joel Franciosa has been a full-time neutral since 2004 and has mediated thousands of cases. He has been asked to mediate relatively straightforward personal injury cases as well as complex matters involving employment, construction, medical malpractice, business disputes, contract disputes, real estate development, petroleum exploration, child molestation, probate, intellectual property and neighbor disputes.

As a litigator for thirteen years, he participated in trials and scores of mediations and arbitrations throughout Northern California involving first and third party claims.

He has had hundreds of hours of formal intensive mediation training, including a basic and advanced training course with Steve Rosenberg's Mediation Training Program, business mediation training through University of California at Berkeley. He was also accepted to participate in basic and advance mediation training through the United States District Court, Northern California District. He participates in two mediation programs per month through the Northern California USDC.

Mr. Franciosa has been accepted by various courts throughtout Northern California as a mediator, including Alameda, Amador, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Marin, Merced, Sacramento, San Francisco, Solano, Yolo, and Yuba Counties. He has been accepted on the Kaiser panel of Arbitrators. Because of his track record of helping parties reach mutually acceptable resolutions of difficult matters, he is regularly invited by various Bay Area courts to mediate pre-trial and morning of trial matters.

He was the chair of the ADR section of the Alameda Bar Association in 2008 and has been a member of the executive committee for the past five years.

Mr. Franciosa's mediation approach is to treat parties and attorneys with respect. He views mediation as an opportunity for parties to tell their stories and to be heard. He assists parties to efficiently explore their options to allow them to make informed decisions about resolving their case. He works diligently and keeps a positive attitude.
